Besides youth clubs & nightclubs, early days at the Blackpool Mecca & Wigan Casino led me into Northern Soul big time. Moving south got into Jazz/Funk (Caistor Weekenders & other club nights) while still attending Allnighters and Rare Soul nights. Having embraced all types of black music, my record collection grew over time after deciding not to keep buying and selling (at the time) the current favourite tunes.
Sixties soul moved into 70s, deep soul and Funk along with popular Soul acts and the general main stream “Soul” and still to this day with new releases, but a bit more discerning now with what I buy….always loath to part with anything unless I have a 2nd copy.
I have reviewed the music I love in Soulful Kinda Music, Buzz and currently Soul Up North fanzines, which I still enjoy as it is the next best thing to actually playing the music to like-minded people.
